have in common? They were all TADA! Ensemble members. Over 1,000 kids have been in TADA! productions since 1984. Some stay involved in theater and even go on to TV and film careers. Others are lawyers, doctors, comedians, or administrative theater personnel. Many are mothers, fathers, and loyal TADA! friends. We want to stay in touch with all our TADA! The Ensemble Program offers a rich array of activities:
Ensemble Training Classes: These trainings are designed specifically to help Ensemble members meet the challenges of performing in a musical. The curriculum may include: Acting, Movement for Actors, Music Theory, Voice and Diction, Dance Technique, Specialized Dance, and Playwriting. Classes are taught by our professional teaching artists.
Individual Training for Selected Ensemble Members: Once a student has surpassed the skill level of the current classes offered at TADA!, he/she is advised to take individual lessons in voice, and/or adult level dance classes at Broadway Dance Center. For those unable to pay, TADA! provides financial assistance.
Community Service Opportunities: Ensemble members may assist TADA! as production interns, design interns, administrative interns, or ushers. Members also have the opportunity to assist a director or choreographer on a production, student teach in TADA!'s Education classes, or help tutor other Ensemble members academically.
Free Audition Preparation Assistance for High School, College, or Professional Companies: TADA! also provides academic help through the "Homework Table," where staff, parents and other Ensemble Members help each other keep up with their regular schoolwork. Our reference library contains plays, monologue books, and music scores, as well as college and financial aid guides.
Free Tickets to Broadway, Off-Broadway, and Other New York Shows: In previous seasons, we've seen Wicked, Little Shop of Horrors, the opening night performance of Julius Caesar starring Denzel Washington, Toxic Audio, and numerous others.
Industry Panels and Guest Artists: In past years, we've hosted panels of playwrights, directors, actors, and other theater professionals who have shared their experience and answered questions in a relaxed, informal setting.
College Assistance: With the OPTIONS Center for Educational and Career Choice, we have developed educational programming - like our College Processing Workshops - to help teens prepare for their future challenges. One-on-one counseling and SAT preparation is provided free of charge through this collaboration. Our reference library also includes college guides, financial aid reference books, and school directories.
Mentoring: Once an Ensemble Member is cast in a mainstage show, he/she is matched with a staff member who serves as a mentor, providing a more personal connection and opening the avenues of communication.
Performance Opportunities: Of course, Ensemble Members make up the casts of our Mainstage shows! In addition to performing in these shows, Ensemble Members have the chance to appear in our numerous Special Event Performances throughout the year.
TADA!'s Resident Youth Ensemble Program is supported in part by the Altman Foundation, The New York Community Trust, The Pinkerton Foundation and United Way of New York City.
