In 1984, TADA! co-founders Janine Nina Trevens and Linda Reiff produced the company's first shows with a budget of $1,500 and lots of support from friends and family. Since its founding, TADA! has become the leading producer of professional-quality youth theater and renowned Arts Education programs in New York City. Today, TADA!'s budget is over $1.8 million and the organization reaches 50,000 children and families annually through its mainstage musical theater productions, arts education and youth development programs.

Since 1984, TADA! has been providing young people of all different backgrounds, including a large number of disadvantaged children and families, the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater together in an educational, supportive, and professional environment. Every year, TADA! produces three original musical theater productions with a discounted ticket program; free pre-professional training and youth development opportunities through the Resident Youth Ensemble composed of over 80 NYC kids ages 8-18; renowned Arts Education in-school residencies and after-school programs that are subsidized by our funders; and theater classes for kids of all ages taught by professional teaching artists and for which need-based scholarships are readily available.

For three decades, TADA! has provided young people from all racial, economic and social backgrounds the opportunity to explore and perform musical theater together in an educational, supportive and professional environment. TADA!'s mission is two-fold: to present high-quality musical theater productions performed by talented kids for family audiences; and to provide a safe, creative and nurturing place where kids can harness their inherent energy, build their self-esteem and realize their true potential through unique collaborative art form that is musical theater. Young people gain confidence and learn commitment, responsibility, communication and teamwork--skills that are critical to their success in both school and life.

Significant Achievements: As the founder and leader, TADA!'s success is Janine Nina Treven's success. Her lengthy tenure with TADA! and the overwhelmingly positive anecdotes from current and past alumni speak to her credit as an artistic leader in youth theater. Over the past 26 years, TADA! has performed by invitation at The White House, Gracie Mansion, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and The Goodwill Games, among countless others. TADA! and Nina have received many honors and awards including American Alliance for Theater Education's Anne Flagg Multicultural Award, Family Circle Magazine's 1st Annual Halo Award, and more than a dozen National Youth Theatre Awards. Additionally, in 2008 TADA! was honored with a Coming Up Taller Award, our nation's highest honor for youth development

TADA! is proud of the fact that many of its Resident Youth Ensemble alumni have gone on to significant achievement in a variety of fields. In addition to some individuals who have become doctors and leaders in business, others have become accomplished filmmakers; ballet dancers; opera singers; stage, film and television actors; and even future employees of TADA! itself.

But, perhaps the greatest award of all is the past quarter century that TADA! has spent impacting the lives of hundreds of thousands of New York City children. In the words of TADA! alumni and actress, Mizuo Peck (Night at the Museum films), "[TADA!] instilled in us so many different and great characteristics, like discipline and punctuality and taking things seriously --not only the hardcore structure of things, but also being able to sing and dance and meet new people: TADA! is the founding influence that has driven everything I've done with my life."

Creative artists (composers, writers and Ensemble members) who developed their trade at TADA! include: Josh Peck (The Wackness, Nickelodeon's "Drake & Josh" and Drillbit Taylor), Kerry Washington (Scandal, Lakeview Terrace, I Think I Love My Wife, The Last King of Scotland), Mizuo Peck (Night at the Museum), Ricki Lake (The Business of Being Born, "Ricki Lake" show), Rap artist Azealia Banks, Jeanine Tesori (Shrek, Thoroughly Modern Millie), Jordan Peele (Key & Peele, MadTV), Eric Rockwell (The Musical of Musicals: The Musical), Winnie Holzman (Wicked), and Jason Robert Brown (Parade, 13).
