Workshops

TADA! provides professional development for classroom teachers during after-school hours. Specially trained TADA! teaching artists introduce school teachers to theater games and improvisational techniques, as ways of utilizing the arts to enhance their academic curricula as well as basic techniques of directing and choreographing to assist with the production of class plays. The workshops also focus on the use of theater education to teach conflict resolution and foster teamwork, discipline and concentration skills. Workshops include topics as broad as: Playwriting, Integrating Literacy and Theater Arts, Movement Games, Living Biography, Diction/Speech/Dialects, Early Childhood Teaching Techniques and Dalcroze Method (musical training through movement).

TADA! also provides professional development for our teaching artists. Through several specialized workshops conducted by their TADA! colleagues and guest experts, teaching artists expand their own training for working with youths.

TADA! recognizes that teachers are students as well—looking for new ways to reach as many of their children as possible. By offering professional development to schools, TADA! provides effective arts in education methodologies and tangible lesson plans for connecting to teacher practices and the New York State Standards for education. TADA! also works to inspire and re-inspire teachers and to provide a comfort level with using theater and musical theater in the classroom.

Professional development workshops for classroom teachers occur during after-school hours or during designated professional development days. TADA! workshop agendas are structured to follow the model form of a class to enable teachers and staff to experience the process first-hand. Thus, participants are led through large group, small group and individual activities and exercises just as we encourage them to do with their own students. TADA! workshops provide practical hands-on activities and methods to highlight and incorporate the arts for the classroom experience and beyond.

TADA! also provides professional development for our teaching artists. Through several specialized workshops conducted by their TADA! colleagues and guest experts, teaching artists expand their own training for working with youths. The TADA! teaching artists, in turn, apply their newly acquired knowledge to their own TADA! classes and to better train public school students and their classroom teachers.
