Ensemble Audition Information
At the heart of TADA! is the Ensemble, a unique, award-winning, completely free, pre-professional theater training and youth development program for more than 65 Ensemble members who come from across the metro area. Membership in the Ensemble is by audition only, and members perform in musical productions and at special events throughout NYC. However, the program doesn't end there! Youth development activities range from transportation subsidies to small group mentoring with TADA! staff, from college preparation and tours to snacks during rehearsals. In addition to theater skills, Ensemble Members improve their abilities in teamwork, time management, public speaking, positive communication, and conflict resolution.
The Ensemble is a year-round program offering many free training and performance opportunities to Ensemble Members. The classes offered to Ensemble Members cover all aspects of musical theater and are separate from the classes and camps offered through TADA!'s Education Department. TADA!'s three musicals and annual staged reading series are cast exclusively from the Ensemble. We produce original musicals written specifically to be performed by the Resident Youth Ensemble for young audiences and their families. Ensemble Members also have performing opportunities in our special events such as the Season Preview Party and Annual Fundraiser. Ensemble Members perform at offsite events such as CultureFest, Barnes & Noble, and corporate parties. Members do not need to be available to audition for every production but must be available for at least one production a year. Members must also be available for some classes and special events. While the Ensemble is a year-round program, there is not a regular on-going time commitment. Time spent at TADA! will vary on participation in classes, shows, and special events.
Classes and rehearsals are generally held Wednesdays through Fridays after school (4-7 p.m.) and Saturday and Sunday afternoons (11 a.m.-6 p.m.). The majority of our winter & spring performances are on Friday evenings and during the weekend. In the summer, performances take place during the week.
To audition for the Ensemble NO EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED! At the audition session, auditionees will work together as a group to learn music and choreography from a TADA! musical. There is no need to prepare anything-- just come dressed comfortable and ready to have fun! Once accepted into the Ensemble, an Ensemble Member may stay in the program until he/she graduates from high school.
Interested? The next auditions will take place in the Fall of 2010. You only need to attend one session. Auditions are BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.
What to prepare:
Nothing! Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to have a good time. You will learn music and a simple dance combination.
Callbacks:
Callbacks will be in the form of workshops. You will only be assigned to one of the two weeks.
